Generally, Two types of Drug License are issued by the drug department for Sales of Pharma Products :
1. Retail Drug License :
Drug Licensing Authority issues Retail Drug License to the retailers who are running a chemist shop or doing business in the pharmaceuticals industry in India. It is important that the individual should be a registered pharmacist under the State Pharmacy Council.
A retailer can sell drugs only in the presence of a registered pharmacist which is approved by the department. Throughout the working hours, the registered pharmacist is required at the retail counter .
In some of the states, Retail Drug License is issued to the only person who have done Diploma, Bachelor of Pharmacy or Masters of Pharmacy and have the degree from the recognized university for that particular course
2. Wholesale Drug License :
In the Pharmaceutical industry, those wholesalers who are doing wholesale business or pharma franchise business to them Wholesale Drug License is issued in India by Central Drugs Standard Control Organization.
Wholesaler can made the sale of the drugs i.e pharma products either in the presence of registered pharmacist on whose name Drug License is issued or in the presence of a competent person who shall be a graduate with 1 year experience or a person who has passed 4 years experience in dealing in drugs in a pharmaceutical company.
Different types of Drug License for Pharma Company
In the Pharmaceutical industry, different types of pharma franchise business require different types of Drug License. On the basis of an individual or company’s requirements a specific drug license is issued. Drug Standard Control Organization issues various types of Drug License. Some of them are explained below:
1. Manufacturing Drug License :
Under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, the manufacturing drug license is issued for all Allopathic, Ayurvedic, Cosmetics drug manufacturing and also other drugs . this license is granted by the respective State Government of the particular state.
2. Loan Drug License in India :
A company who wants to manufacture the products by their own Brand name but in other’s premises or plant, they can apply for loan drug license.
3. Import Drug License :
The import drug license is issued to the person who are engaged in the sale of imported drugs or manufacturing the pharmaceutical products by using the imported raw materials .
4. Sale Drug License in India :
Who are engaging in the distribution of pharmaceutical drugs in India, at wholesale or retail level to whom sale drug licenses are issued.
